WaWa Weekend Day 1

On Friday the 2nd day of October in the year 2009 Anno Domini a handful of the Habitat team gathered in the New Jersey quadrant of the United States of America. Attending this particular gathering were Habitat riders Fred Gall, Silas Baxter-Neal, Kerry Getz, Alex Davis, Steve Durante, Austyn Gillette, and myself....Tim O'Connor. We were all summoned together to demo and swing sharpees around and all over the state of New Jersey. Unfortunately for the demo portions of this micro-tour Austyn Gillette, Fred Gall, Steve Durante, and Alex Davis were all physically sidelined with ankle issues and other types of ow'ees. I believe that I heard Guru Khalsa hurt his ankle as well wherever he was at the moment. Apparently the team likes to hurt themselves in unison so that they can feel the pain of their fellow Habitat brothers. That only left myself, Silas, and Kerry Getz to do some skating at the parks that we went to.

Our first event was a demo at Small Empire skatepark/skateshop in a town known as Flanders, New Jersey. I've known the people at Small Empire for quite some time so going to do a demo there was sort of strange for me since it's so close to my house and very familiar territory. Most of the time when I'm off doing demos I am leaps and bounds away from the place where I store my spare underwear. But for this demo I was afforded the comfort of waking up in my own bed and then driving from my house to the park with Austyn who was staying with me at this time. We met up with rest of our teammates when we arrived at Small Empire on the evening of the 2nd. Some handshakes and some half hugs were exchanged and then we entered the park and flipped our skateboards around. Alex Davis manned the megaphone and relayed any pertinent information that he deemed necessary through that vocal magnifying device. (I believe some of the happenings from the demo should be in video form on the site soon enough so feast your eyes on some of what you missed if you weren't there.)

People did some moves and we did our best to make the local folks happy. The kids were psyched and super cool and I let a bunch of them pet my two little pathetic dogs. The owner of Small Empire, Dave Yun took us out to eat after where we murdered some Applebee's and Fred blacked out while talking shit on the IRS the whole time. It was good times and let me say much thanks to Dave Yun and Tallone for the glorious feast of appetizers galore that we got to shove in our ravenous faces.
